Empowered by the First Nations Leadership Council and in partnership with the provincial and federal governments, the BC First Nations Justice Council (BCFNJC) is responsible to 204 First Nations in BC. Our mandate is to reduce the overrepresentation of First Nations Métis and Inuit people in the criminal justice system and the child protection system, and to support Nations as they move to sovereignty over justice.
We are seeking an "Auntie" Outreach Worker to join our Indigenous Justice Centre (IJC) in Merritt. BC. Working as a collaborator in the IJC team, the Auntie provides short term support to IJC clients who are survivors of violence and/or MMIWG2S+ family members or survivors and are facing child protection and family law matters.

The Auntie can support the legal team in providing accessible information to referred IJC clients around systems, such as the criminal justice, child welfare, youth justice, family law.
The Auntie works in collaboration with the Resource and Support Worker to ensure safety and wellbeing of Intimate Partner Violence and family violence and survivors, including the development of safety plans and pathways to wholistic healing. The Auntie provides guidance and system navigation to MMIWG2S+ families and survivors who are seeking out support to locate missing family members, connect to appropriate services and supports, access and gather information, and/or assist in the connection to legal services through an IJC lawyer.
