Reports to: Director, Health and Wellness

Status: Permanent, Full-Time, Hybrid

Location: Merritt or Spences Bridge with regular travel between both locations.

ABOUT US:

The Cook's Ferry Indian Band is a Nlaka'pamux government located in the Central Interior Region of British Columbia. It has 26 reserves of various sizes, primarily in the scenic Thompson River Valley between what are now known as Ashcroft and Lytton, British Columbia, and through the Nicola Valley, including Merritt.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Social Worker: Children and Family plays a central role in the delivery of child welfare services to children, youth, and families within the Cook’s Ferry Indian Band community. Rooted in a trauma-informed and culturally safe practice, this position supports children and families by conducting comprehensive assessments, developing service plans, and coordinating integrated care with internal and external supports. The role emphasizes community collaboration, cultural connection, and a strengths-based, family-centered approach to promote child safety, permanency, and well-being.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Case Management & Family Support

· Conduct comprehensive assessments and create service plans in collaboration with families, Elders, and multidisciplinary support teams.

· Provide one-on-one support to children, youth, and families to support achieving their goals.

· Facilitate planning and review meetings that prioritize permanency, cultural connection, and independence.

· Coordinate referrals and liaise with relevant service providers and supports.

· Maintain regular documentation and progress reports in line with professional and agency standards.

· Ensure children/youth understand their care circumstances and are engaged in their own planning.

· Obtain necessary approvals from the Director or Team Leader at all major decision points.

Collaboration & Community Engagement

· Build and maintain trusting relationships with youth and families, empowering them in decision-making processes.

· Attend and participate in community events, cultural gatherings and internal program initiatives.

· Represent the Health and Wellness team in a respectful and professional manner.

· Uphold privacy and confidentiality, while keeping family and natural supports engaged in planning.

Other Duties

· Support internal program development and contribute to continuous quality improvement.

· Participate in training, supervision, and performance evaluation processes.

· Other tasks or projects as assigned by the Director of Health and Wellness.

Qualifications:

· Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.

· Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related human services field.

· Current C6 Delegation through the Ministry of Children and Family Development, or eligibility to obtain delegation.

· Strong interpersonal and interviewing skills with a focus on cultural humility and respect.

· Exceptional case planning, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.

· Ability to navigate and apply relevant child welfare legislation in a respectful and community-centered way.

· Proficient with case management tools and standard computer software.

Assets:

· Experience working in or with Indigenous communities, or within a First Nation government or administration.

· Understanding of community values and respect for Indigenous governance processes.

· Knowledge of local language or culture is considered a strong asset.

· Completion of Child Welfare Specialization or practicum preferred.

SALARY:

· $80,000 – $95,000 commensurate with education and experience.
