Job Summary:

Reception:

  • First point of contact for students, guests, and others who visit the Vancouver campus;
  • Vancouver switchboard operator for incoming telephone inquiries for both campuses;
  • Assist in scheduling/re-scheduling Academic and Financial Planners student appointments;
  • Printing student academic schedules;
  • Monitor Vancouver campus incoming mail and drop outgoing mail to Canada Post mailbox;
  • Monitor the info@nvit.ca in collaboration with the Merritt ISSO;
  • Troubleshoot and navigating assistance for students experiencing minor technical issues;
  • Provide direction to prospective and current learners in regards to the enrolment services department;
  • Provide other various supports to enrolment services, including maintaining and creating student files, posting EST notifications (final exam schedule, elections etc), and assistance at NVIT Vancouver campus events;
  • Maintaining the front desk area of the campus including having up-to-date information and forms available.
  • Provide other various supports to the departmental assistant, including organizing office supplies, meeting minutes and agendas for departmental and committee meetings, scheduling and organizing meetings and appointments, and preparing and reviewing various programming materials.
  • Supporting with room and vehicle bookings at the Vancouver campus.

Cultural Support:

  • Practice from a holistic, culturally safe and trauma-informed lens;
  • Knowledge of and appreciation for Indigenous languages and cultures, and Indigenous lived experiences;
  • Support the promotion of cultural inclusion within the NVIT community;
  • Provide other various supports to the Culture and Language Coordinator, including supporting the organization of cultural events and initiatives on the Vancouver campus;
  • Lead and promote students and staff in cultural engagement with the surrounding Indigenous communities, connecting with lived-experience individuals, and organizations which will assist in the promotion of continual cultural inclusion, teachings, growth, and development;

Education and Experience:

  • Relevant two-year diploma or equivalent education and experience. Preference will be given to those with a minimum of one year of experience working in the BC public post-secondary system.

Indigenous Knowledge and Experience:

  • Direct lived experience of Indigenous worldviews, cultures, and values, with exceptional consideration for Coastal BC Indigenous Nations.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultural protocols to appropriately engage and foster respectful, reciprocal, and ongoing relationships.
  • Understanding of Canada’s colonial history and its devastating impacts on Indigenous peoples.
  • Practice from a holistic, culturally safe, and trauma-informed perspective.

Technical Skills:

  • Extensive experience with computer systems, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Ensuring the confidentiality of NVIT matters

Personal Attributes:

  • Self-motivated, independent problem solver with the ability to take initiative.
  • Proven ability to build collaborative working relationships, achieving outcomes in the best interest of prospective and current students and NVIT.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, as well as workshop facilitation abilities.
