Looking for a Full Time Housing Manager

$60,000–$85,000 a year

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Housing Manager to oversee and manage the housing programs and services for the Coldwater Indian Band. The Housing Manager will be responsible for the planning, development, and administration of housing initiatives that serve our community's needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement housing policies and programs in alignment with community goals,
  • Manage and oversee the maintenance of Band-owned housing and properties,
  • Prepare and manage the housing department budget (operating and capital),
  • Seek and apply for funding opportunities through Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), CMHC, and other programs,
  • Manage tenant relations, including rent collection, arrears management, and eviction processes,
  • Collaborate with external agencies and stakeholders to enhance housing services and opportunities,
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting for all housing programs,
  • Conduct regular assessments of housing conditions and community needs,
  • Coordinate housing construction and renovation projects, including budgeting, procurement, contractor selection, and project management,
  • Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal housing regulations, and
  • Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Band Administrator.

  • Understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and community dynamics, with a focus on respect and sensitivity in all interactions,
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities, including active listening and the capacity to effectively share stories and ideas,
  • Ability to build rapport and establish trusting relationships with diverse individuals and groups within the community,
  • Experience collaborating in a team environment, valuing each member’s contributions to achieve
  • shared objectives,
  • Proficient in mediating conflicts with emphasis on empathy, understanding differing perspectives, and utilizing restorative practices,
  • Flexibility in responding to changing circumstances and the resiliency to navigate challenges effectively,
  • A genuine concern for the well-being of others, actively supporting community members in need, and
  • Dedication to personal and professional growth through continuous learning.

Experience, Education and Requirements

  • Relevant degree or diploma in urban planning, housing management, or a related field,
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in housing management or related roles,
  • Strong knowledge of housing policies and regulations,
  • A proactive approach to taking on responsibilities and contributing positively to community projects without constant supervision, and
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of the community and participate in events.
