Responsibilities 

  • Provide personalized tutoring and academic supports for students 
  • Building and collaborating  a working relationship with the student success center team, Elders, Faculty and staff 
  • Promote and support student engagement in campus workshops, learning labs, mentorship opportunities, events and cultural activities 
  • Support students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and across all platforms and modalities 
  • Demonstrate an understanding of equity, Diversity, and inclusion principals and recognize the value of fostering a community that embraces diversity, equity and inclusion 
  • Engage with students in a professional trauma-informed and inclusive manner 
  • Support and/or facilitate academic workshops 
  • Invigilate student exams in accordance with established policies and procedures 
  • Maintain the upkeep of the success center, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and functionality 
  • This agreement may be reduced or terminated at the discretion of the employer 
  • Relevant bachelor's degree with major in English is preferred 
  • Education and/or experience in universal design and special education is preferred 
  • Understanding of Canada's history and the impacts on indigenous peoples and indigenous ways of being and knowing 
  • Promotion of holistic wellness, cultural safety, and relevancy, and trauma-informed practice 
  • Knowledge of and appreciation for indigenous languages and cultures preferably indigenous lived experiences
  • Experience with aboriginal adult learning and written communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Able to work flexible hours on weekdays/evenings and weekends 
  • A demonstrated commitment to quality service to students and the public 
  • Self-motivated, independent problem solver, with enthusiastic initiative
