Looking for a Full Time Band Maintenance Worker
$36,400–$54,600 a year
This position is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and general maintenance of Band facilities, grounds, and equipment. The ideal candidate will be proactive, safety-conscious, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Conduct regular inspections and perform routine maintenance and repairs on Band-owned buildings, infrastructure, and housing units and take corrective action as appropriate,
- Maintain Band-owned properties, including landscaping, snow removal, and general cleaning,
- Operate, maintain, and safely store tools, equipment, machinery, and vehicles in accordance with safety procedures,
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests, service calls, and emergency situations such as water leaks, heating failures, or safety concerns,
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards, environmental regulations, and bylaws,
- Assist with the coordination of contractors, tradespeople, and service providers when specialized work is required,
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities,
- Support the setup, maintenance, and takedown of facilities and equipment for community events, meetings, ceremonies, and cultural gatherings
- Work respectfully with Elders, leadership, staff, tenants, and community members, following cultural protocols and demonstrating professionalism at all times,
- Support other departments such as Housing, Education, or Social Development as assigned, and
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Public Works Manager.
Requirements
- Understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and community dynamics, with a focus on respect and sensitivity in all interactions,
- Ability to build rapport and establish trusting relationships with diverse individuals and groups within the community,
- Experience collaborating in a team environment, valuing each member’s contributions to achieve shared objectives,
- Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and landscaping,
- Ability to operate hand and power tools safely,
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills,
- A genuine concern for the well-being of others, actively supporting community members in need, and
- Dedication to personal and professional growth through continuous learning.
- Previous experience in building maintenance, construction, or related fields,
- Physically fit (able to lift 50lbs on a regular basis),
- Valid BC Driver’s License of Class 5 or higher.
- A proactive approach to responsibilities, with a strong sense of accountability and reliability, and
- Willingness to work flexible hours as necessary.
