Looking for a Full Time Water Quality Scientist
$120,000 and $130,000 per year
Position Overview
This position will be an integral component of the water team in providing technical knowledge, environmental leadership, and operational support for the New Afton Mine. To be successful in this role you should have a strong understanding of water quality, chemistry and environmental effects, refined analytical skills, and be able to communicate findings in a clear and succinct manner. This role allows you to apply your technical expertise to real business goals while growing your career in environmental management and mining.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical ownership of the water quality monitoring data assessment and interpretation.
- Provision of technical advice for the continual improvement and optimization of field monitoring programs.
- Working in a team environment to maintain general water quality and environmental risk awareness and management practices.
- Integrate with the site team to support water management aspects of the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001 and Towards Sustainable Mining based).
- Compilation of annual regulatory reports.
- Remain current with technical advancements and integrate continual improvement into operational risk management.
- Implement and maintain environmental operational controls, such as Management Plans and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Support for ongoing permitting projects and site closure planning.
- Other responsibilities as per the business requirement.

Qualifications
- A degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or a related field, along with 8+ years of relevant experience.
- A master's degree and experience within the mining industry are considered strong assets.
- 5 or more years of managing water quality monitoring programs, data interpretation and technical report writing.
- Demonstrated experience using environmental monitoring data and models to formulate and solve problems.
- Familiarity with tailings storage facility operations and closure considerations.
- Familiarity with the British Columbia regulatory environment and development of water quality objectives.
- Registration with a professional organization (P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag., P.Chem, RP.Bio) or eligibility to register within next 6 months.
- Strong communication skills; ability to relay complex technical information to various stakeholders.

Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:
- Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen
- Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
- Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements
