Is looking for a Seasonal Outdoor Worker

$33.66 an hour

Seasonal Outside Workers (Labourers) take pride in contributing to the success of the team. They work in all weather conditions to maintain Merritt’s public grounds so they can be enjoyed by our city’s residents and visitors during the spring and summer seasons. As a Seasonal Outdoor Worker, you will assist in maintaining city parks, landscapes, sidewalks, streets, roads, the cemetery, compost, airport, lawn bowling, and baseball diamonds. With your customer-service orientation, your duties may include landscaping, planting bulbs, shrubs, weeding gardens, pruning, raking and helping the team to repair potholes, concrete, and bricks. You will run small equipment such as mowers, weedwhackers, skid steers, and you may drive light-duty trucks or other equipment related to the work.  This position required 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. The season can run between March and October; As part of your role, you may also be required to participate in an on-call rotation.

Qualifications  

  • The ability to work safely and efficiently
  • Knowledge and experience in the methods, materials, tools, and other maintenance and proper safe operation of various hand and power tools and other equipment related to work
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to deal tactfully, courteously and accurately with the public and Municipal staff, work effectively within a team.
  • Enthusiastic, positive attitude and customer-service orientation
  • Ability to analyze and trouble shoot
  • Sound judgement to perform duties as assigned and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to keep simple records of the work performed
  • Sufficient physical strength, stamina, and coordination to perform heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions
  • Criminal record check required
