Is looking for a Youth & Indigenous Elders Engagement Coordinator

$47,000-$50,000

Tasks

  • Coordinating recruitment if indigenous and non-indigenous youth to participate in open dialogue and projects that promote healthy watersheds in the valley
  • Collaborating with partners and team members to plan and deliver trauma-informed youth engagement activities with a decolonial lens
  • Working with indigenous knowledge holders to help develop culturally appropriate and immersive activities that connect youth to the land and traditional practices
  • Facilitating opportunities for intergenerational collaboration and knowledge exchange between youth and indigenous elders
  • Cultivating safe space to support youth ages 9-12 and 13-18 with building strong relationships, acquiring new skills and embracing and nurturing their inner gifts to contribute as land and water stewards
  • Fostering and nurturing strong relationships with youth participants by being approachable, perceptive, and by providing flexible support for their learning needs
  • Supporting relevant communications needs, including assisting in the development of youth-friendly online engagement content and social media
  • Facilitating positive and meaningful connections and collaboration with other organizations pursuing common sustainability-related goals in region
  • Organizing meetings, and capturing discussion summaries and meeting minuets
  • Ensuring that programs and activities are delivered on time and on budget
  • Coordinating program evaluation and timely reports

Skills & Qualifications

  • Schooling or practical experience in outdoor education or land-based learning
  • Skills in planning and designing immersive engagement activities
  • Understanding or knowledge of ethical space and trauma informed practice
  • Experience with event planning and coordination
  • Strong youth-oriented communication and social media engagement skills
  • Knowledge curiosity about local watershed related issues and stewardship
  • Good organizational and administrative skills
  • Able to work collaboratively with decentralized and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (outlook, Word, Excel etc.)

Requirements

  • Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • A completed criminal records check is required upon job offer to verify applicants’ identity and to uphold safety requirements for staff working with youth and children (Expenses will be covered for successful candidate)
  • Emergency First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain one
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
