As a company deeply invested in the communities where we operate, we are actively seeking to attract, train, and employ individuals from the local Merritt and Nicola Valley region to build a strong, regional technical team committed to our mission of Canadian data sovereignty.

You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all physical infrastructure within a data center. This includes servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and related hardware. The technician ensures the proper functioning of the data center's environment, performing both routine maintenance and rapid response to critical issues to maintain high system availability and data integrity.

  1. Respond to and resolve alerts, alarms, and trouble tickets in a timely manner.
  2. Install, configure, rack, cable servers, switches, routers, and other network hardware.
  3. Perform physical inspections and maintenance of data center equipment, including replacing failed components (e.g., hard drives, memory, power supplies).
  4. Manage the physical environment of the data center, monitoring temperature, humidity, and airflow.
  5. Ensure proper power distribution and cable management according to established standards.
  6. Continuously monitor network traffic, server performance, and facility systems (e.g., power, cooling, fire suppression, security).
  7. Diagnose and repair hardware issues, escalating complex problems to senior engineers or other IT teams as needed.
  8. Perform remote hands-on support for network and systems teams.
  9. Execute software and firmware updates, patches, and upgrades on various systems and devices.
  10. Perform data backup and recovery procedures to protect against data loss.
  11. Conduct routine audits and preventative maintenance to ensure the health of all equipment.
  12. Manage the lifecycle of equipment, from receiving and inventory management to decommissioning and secure disposal.
  13. Maintain accurate and detailed logs of all maintenance activities, hardware configurations, and system changes.
  14. Collaborate with security teams to implement and monitor security measures.
  15. Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including network engineers, system administrators, and security experts.
  16. Provide clear and concise technical documentation and reports.
  17. Escort and monitor outside contractors working within the facility.
  18. Perform other related duties as necessary.

Qualifications

Post-secondary certificate in information technology, computer science, or related field plus a minimum of one year recent, related experience.  An equivalent combination of education, skills and experience may be considered. Canadian government clearance required. 

Skills and Abilities

  • Solid understanding of computer hardware, including servers, storage devices, and components.
  • Proficiency with networking principles and hardware (e.g., switches, routers).
  • Familiarity with various operating systems, especially Linux/Unix and Windows Server.
  • Experience with structured cabling, fiber optics, and cable management.
  • Basic knowledge of power and cooling systems (e.g., HVAC, power distribution units).
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues quickly.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including nights, weekends, or on-call, to support 24/7 operations.
