Summer student - Early Childhood Educator
This training position is to assist in providing supervision and role modeling to children. This position will assist with social, educational and recreational activities. The student will help to provide a safe and supportive environment for program participants.
Roles & Responsibilities
- To take direction from the ece worker that is on shift
- To maintain appropriate communication with the worker, parents and children
- To assist with preparation and clean up of activities at the center
- To help with cooking, clean up and disinfecting
- To advise of any possible concerns or conditions that are occurring that might put the children and youth at risk
- To help monitor the children and encourage children in all aspects of the program
- To maintain confidentiality of the families at the center
- Provides emotional support and feedback with the children
- Practice good working knowledge of family centered role model
- Facilities physical, recreational, social and educational activities
- Be a positive role model
- Basic office, telephone, computer and administration
Qualifications
- Had been going to & planning to return to school in Fall
- Interest and enjoyment working with children
- Must be mature thinking, self motivated and able to work independently
- Good planning, organizational and computer skills
- To be able to demonstrate positive role modeling and have self care plan
- To be able to provide Criminal Record Check
- Not required but an asset:
- Post secondary education in child care field or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Persons with ECE (Early Childhood education)
- driver's license & driver's abstract "N" or better would be an asset
- Current First Aid certificate and Food Safe certificate would be an asset
- Knowledge of community services available in Merritt is an asset
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity, creativity, collaborative approach and resourcefulness
Term Position - As soon as possible - August 31, 2026 (12 weeks)
Wage $18.25 per hour 35 hours a week
