Position: Housing Maintenance Intern (Youth Position)

Department: Community Services - Housing

Department Term: Short Term /Temporary (12 Weeks / Summer Position)

Reports to: Housing Manager

Role: The Housing Maintenance Intern will support the Housing Department with general maintenance, repairs, inspections,

and upkeep of community housing units and related facilities. This position provides Indigenous youth with valuable hands-on

experience in housing maintenance, property management, and community services.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with routine maintenance and repairs in community housing units.

• Perform basic carpentry, painting, landscaping, and general labour duties as assigned.

• Assist with housing inspections and document maintenance requirements.

• Support housing staff with unit turnovers, cleaning, and preparation of homes for occupancy.

• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and organized manner.

• Assist with grounds maintenance, including lawn care and debris removal.

• Report maintenance issues and safety concerns to the Housing Manager.

• Follow all workplace health and safety procedures.

 

Qualifications/Experience:

• Must be between 19 and 30 years of age.

• Must be indigenous youth.

• Must be eligible to work in Canada.

• Previous experience in maintenance, construction, landscaping, or general labour is considered an asset but is not required.

• Willingness to learn and work in a team environment.

• Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools is an asset.

• Ability to perform physically demanding work and work outdoors in various weather conditions.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Commitment to workplace safety.

• Valid driver's license is considered an asset.
