JOB TITLE:Maintenance Laborer – Summer Student
REPORT TO: Housing Manager
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Part-Time – Temporary HOURS PER WEEK: 30 hours/week
WAGE: $22 - $28 (wage depended upon skill and training)
POSITION START: As soon as possible
Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated, reliable, and hands-on Summer Student Maintenance Worker to support our Housing Department. This successful candidate will assist with maintaining safe, clean, and well-functioning housing units and outdoor spaces. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in maintenance, groundskeeping, and housing operations while contributing to the well-being of the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Repairs
- Provide minor repairs (e.g. caulking, light plumbing, repairing fixtures, painting)
- Assist with unit inspections and report damages or maintenance needs
- Respond to tenant maintenance requests and communicate issues appropriately Groundskeeping & Exterior Maintenance
- Maintain lawns, gardens, and outdoor areas (mowing, trimming, weeding)
- Keep parking areas, walkways, and garbage areas clean and safe
- Ensure exterior lighting is functioning properly Housing Support
- Assist with preparing units for new tenants
- Ensure tenants are notified of maintenance work when required
- Support adherence to tenancy guidelines and community standards Daily Operations
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of tools, equipment, and workspaces
- Follow safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills Required
- Currently enrolled in full-time post-secondary education and returning in the fall
- Valid BC Driver’s License and reliable vehicle
- Criminal Record Check • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team Preferred Assets
- Previous maintenance or landscaping experience
- Ability to operate basic groundskeeping equipment
- Knowledge of Indigenous communities and cultural awareness Working Conditions
- Frequently standing, walking, bending, and manual labour
- Combination of indoor and outdoor work
- Exposure to varying weather conditions (heat, rain, wind)
- Active, hands-on environment.
