Is looking for Term Instructors – Indigenous Early Childhood Education

$7600 a month

NVIT anticipates the need for term instructors to teach Indigenous Early Childhood Education (IECE) courses and invite applications form qualified candidates. NVIT regularly provides IECE courses through the Community education department across the province. Community-based offerings vary in delivery, and the schedule is mutually agreed upon. We are posting to develop a Human Resource bank for IECE Instructors for new and upcoming course deliveries; course offerings are subject to sufficient student enrolment.

Year 1 Term 1:

• ENGL 110 – College Composition
• PSYC 131 – Applied Interpersonal and Career Development Skills
• IECE 101 – Child Health and Wellness
• IECE 102 – Introduction to Indigenous Early Learning and Care
• IECE 103 – Stories, Ideas, and Pathways of Child Development

Year 1 Term 2:

• IECE 104 – Pathways of Development
• IECE 134 – Guiding Through Gifts in Indigenous Early Years
• IECE124 – Introduction to Designing children’s Environment
• IECE 148 – Practicum 1: Connecting Theory and Practice

Year 1 Term 3:

• IECE 125 – Designing Children’s Programs
• IECE 149 – Practicum 2: Practicing Competencies
• IECE 136 – Connectedness to Culture and Community
• IECE 126 – Programming for Early Years
• IECE 150 – Practicum 3: Demonstration

Applicants should indicate which courses they are qualified for and interested in teaching.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in a related field ECE Certificate and Diploma are mandatory in Undergraduate Degree preference is given to BC Certificate and Diploma
• Experience working with children 3 to 12 years of age
• Experience working in group daycare, head start, or ECE development center or organization (Centers that follow BC licensing regulations)
• Experience in classroom teaching and learning practices with Indigenous adult learners at a college or university level
• Strong team player with excellent human relations skills – faculty members are expected to contribute positively to the life of the school and community
• Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing
