Looking for a Full Time Permanent Public Works Technician
$45,000–$60,000 a year
Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain potable water systems, including wells, pumps, reservoirs, treatment equipment, and distribution lines
- Perform routine water quality testing, sampling, and monitoring in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Maintain accurate records of water system operations, test results, maintenance, and regulatory reporting
- Identify, troubleshoot, and repair water system issues such as leaks, pressure problems, pump failures, and service interruptions
- Assist with emergency water system repairs and service restorations,
- Perform maintenance and repair of roads, culverts, ditches, signage, and drainage systems
- Inspect roads and right-of-ways to identify safety hazards and maintenance needs,
- Assist with capital projects, upgrades, and infrastructure improvements,
- Monitor septic fields for proper function, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance,
- Respond to septic backups, overflows, and system failures,
- Maintain records of inspections, pumping schedules, and repairs,
- Respond to after-hours emergencies and participate in on-call rotation as required,
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, contractors, engineers, and regulatory agencies,
- Assist with community events, emergency preparedness, and special projects as assigned Take additional training as required to support the needs of the community, and
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Public Works Manager.

- Understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and community dynamics, with a focus on respect and sensitivity in all interactions,
- Ability to build rapport and establish trusting relationships with diverse individuals and groups within the community,

- Ability to operate hand and power tools safely,

Experience, Education and Requirements
- Small Water System Operator ticket required, or willingness and ability to obtain,
- Experience in public works, road maintenance, or a related field is an asset,
- Knowledge of road construction, septic systems, and general maintenance practices,
- Physically fit (able to lift 50lbs on a regular basis),
- Valid BC Driver’s License of Class 5 or higher,
- Be available for on-call shifts (7 days on/7 days off rotation),
- A proactive approach to responsibilities, with a strong sense of accountability and reliability, and
- Willingness to work flexible hours as necessary
