Emcon Services Inc., a distinguished Canadian company with proven track record of over 30 years as an interprovincial Road and Bridge Maintenance Contractor, is offering an exciting opportunity. We're looking for a motivated individual to join our team as a Payroll Administrator at our Corporate office in Merritt, BC. 

Role Overview:

As Payroll Administrator at Emcon Services Inc., you will be responsible for overseeing the accurate and timely processing of Payroll across multiple employee groups. including both unionized and exclusion (non-union) employees. This role ensures compliance with internal policies, collective agreements, and applicable legislation, while maintaining high standards of data integrity and confidentiality. 

Key Responsibilities Include: 

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing, including regular and exclusion payroll cycles, ensuring all payments are accurate and completed on schedule 
  • Prepare and transmit all final payroll files to the bank, ensuring proper validation, approvals, and adherence to deadlines 
  • Oversee payroll operations for unionized employees, including interpretation and application of collective agreements 
  • Provide specific oversight and support for British Columbia (BC) unionized payroll, ensuring regional compliance and accuracy 
  • Supervise and support a team of three direct reports, including workload allocation, training, performance management, and ongoing development 
  • Ensure payroll accuracy through regular audits, reconciliations, and review of payroll reports prior to finalization 
  • Maintain and validate exclusion employee records, ensuring correct setup of compensation, benefits, and deduction in alignment with company policies 
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to ensure seamless integration of employee data, benefits administration, and payroll changes 
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance payroll efficiency and accuracy 
  • Address payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies in an timely and professional manner 
  • Monitor and maintain payroll accuracy through regular reporting, reconciliations, and quality checks 
  • This role requires strong attention to detail, in-depth knowledge of payroll processes (Including unionized environments), and the ability to lead a team while managing multiple priorities effectively 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelors degree with a minimum of 2-3 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory capacity 
  • Prior payroll experience; Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is an asset 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access) and accounting/ERP systems; experience with Explorer Contract Manager is a strong asset 
  • Understanding of BC Employment Standards Act, WorkSafeBC requirements, and payroll legislation 
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic, multi-site environment 
  • High degree of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
