Cultural Heritage Resource Department  Permanent Full Time
Start date: ASAP (or until the position is filled)
Wage: Commensurate with experience, as per salary range for Class 5 level employee in UNB Personnel Policy
Reports to: Cultural Heritage Resource Manager
Role: Provide a full range of technical services covering forestry referrals, conducting preliminary field reconnaissance (PFRs), report writing and invoicing licensees; and other natural resource or archaeological or environmental field studies within Upper Nicola Band’s Area of Interest
Key Responsibilities:
• Work with UNB Referral Coordinator to streamline referral review/responses, track and monitor forestry and other referrals received by Upper Nicola Band, with the support of the Community Knowledge Keeper (CKK) database;
• Coordinate preliminary field reconnaissance (PFRs) with other First Nations groups (e.g. ONA bands, Scwxmx Tribal Council, Lower Nicola Band, and Eshkenem), including the compilation of field data and drafting reports/recommendations;
• Prepare and process invoices in the Syntax system in accordance with UNB financial procedures;
• Ensure that service agreements with forestry licensees are signed, keep track of expiry dates and agreement renewals;
• Participate in health and safety audits;
• Participate in CHR department referral meetings as required;
• Natural Resource Technician Diploma, or Post-secondary education, or experience in natural resource management, or equivalent;
• Resource Inventory Standards Committee (RISC) Archaeological Inventory Training for Crew Members;
• Environmental Field Skills certification not required but considered an asset;
• Level 1 First Aid;
• Knowledge of current BC Safety Certification & Forestry Safety Council Standards and Certification
• Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation;
• Familiarity with forestry planning and practices is an asset;
• Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Xyntax, CKK, RAAD, Google Earth, and GIS;
• Must be willing to take CKK Referral Database and Xyntax finance database training;
• Must be physically fit and able to handle a medium to heavy workload in outdoor conditions;
• Knowledge of Upper Nicola Band territory, traditional land uses, and cultural practices is an asset
