Who Is BCIB
BCIB is the Provincial Crown corporation providing the qualified skilled trades workforce for the construction of public infrastructure projects operating under the Community Benefits Agreement.
As the employer for all workers on these projects, BCIB makes sure British Columbians get access to good-paying, career-building jobs, skills development and apprenticeships. Priority hiring and rehiring underrepresented workers such as Indigenous peoples, women and people with disabilities will help ensure our Province can meet labour market needs, today and into the future.
BC Infrastructure Benefits Inc. (BCIB) is the employer for skilled trades workers on select Provincial infrastructure projects, including:
- Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project
- Highway 1 Four-Laning
- Broadway Subway Project
We’re directly involved in recruiting, qualifying and supporting the development and training of skilled trades workers. We help ensure the Community Benefits Agreement is implemented across all worksites, and both communities and individuals benefit.
Building a Better BC
With a focus on local hiring, BCIB gives British Columbians access to work opportunities in their communities. Local workers can then build, invest and stay in their communities. Indigenous peoples, women and other traditionally underrepresented groups receive priority access to employment and training opportunities at BCIB.
BCIB also helps grow the next generation of construction workers needed in this Province. By maximizing apprenticeship openings on major public infrastructure projects, BCIB provides those starting out their careers in the skilled trades with excellent career paths and job opportunities.
BCIB is committed to meeting the objectives set out in the Community Benefits Agreement by completing projects expeditiously, efficiently and economically, and in a way that provides direct benefits to the local communities and to the Province.
These benefits include the priority training and hiring of local residents, Indigenous peoples, women, and other groups that are underrepresented in infrastructure.
To realize these benefits, BCIB is committed to:
Developing and implementing policies and practices to ensure community benefits are realized to the greatest extent possible.
Establishing fair working conditions and practices that will apply to all employees working on the CBA projects.
Fostering work practices that will yield cost effectiveness and high-quality results and fair compensation for all participants for productive and quality work.
Cultivating a workplace free of discrimination and harassment and that is respectful of the cultural differences of all participants.
Providing apprenticeships and skills training to develop a skilled workforce that will meet the Province’s future labour needs.
