About the Role:
The Community Support Worker supports adults with diverse abilities to enhance independence, confidence, and quality of life through meaningful activities and community involvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage clients in recreational, social, and community activities.
- Support food preparation and promote safe food handling.
- Assist with mobility and personal care as needed.
- Develop and implement individualized support plans.
- Collaborate with families, caregivers, and professionals.
- Ensure safety, follow health and safety protocols, and use de-escalation skills when necessary.
- Administer medications per policy.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE
- Community or School Support Worker Certificate, a Diploma is an asset
- Minimum one (1) year of related experience working with persons with cognitive, physical, and other diverse abilities with varying and complex needs
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
- Support individuals with diverse physical and cognitive abilities.
- Plan and facilitate recreational and community inclusion activities.
- Promote life skills development and provide personal care as needed.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment, including meal prep and housekeeping.
- Manage challenging behaviours and crisis situations effectively.
- Work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and strong communication skills.
- Maintain accurate documentation and positive working relationships.
- Advocate for individuals with diverse abilities.
REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or equivalent) with a safe driving record.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, transferring, and assisting individuals with mobility aids (training provided).
- Completion or willingness to complete mandatory training (CPR-C, Mandt, Safe Food Handling, Medication Management, Anti-Bullying & Harassment, CLBC Privacy).
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (cost reimbursed).
- Union membership required (1.8% dues deduction).
