Looking for a Full Time Junior Kitchen keykix

We are looking for a reliable and an enthusiastic individual to assist our cooking team in preparing meals for community events and gatherings. This role supports the lead cooks and involves helping with safe food preparation, traditional cooking practices, and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in our kitchen. The ideal candidate is a team player with a willingness to learn, strong attention to detail, and a shared passion for bringing people together through food. Good communication skills and the ability to follow direction in a busy kitchen environment are essential. Primary Duties
- Prepare and cook meals for community events and gatherings, ensuring that our offerings reflect our cultural values and traditions,
- Collaborate with team members to maintain kitchen supplies, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness and organization,
- Ensure kitchen equipment is cleaned and sanitized regularly,
- Ensure the proper handling, storage, and preparation of wild game and harvested plants, maintaining food safety standards,
- Assist and host elders and community members during catered events, ensuring comfort and engagement, and
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as community events and gatherings often take place during these times,
- A strong sense of community and teamwork, supporting fellow cooks and connecting with our members through food,
- Knowledge of cultural practices, including preparation of wild game and harvested plants an asset,
- Self-motivated and can work on their own without supervision,
- Ability to follow recipes and/or meal plans,
- Strong level of written and verbal communication skills,
- Knowledge and experience with traditional foods and medicine, and
- Knowledge and experience with canning, drying, butchering, and other preservation methods, and
- Ability to work in a team setting, accept responsibility, and work to deadlines.
Experience and Requirements
- A valid Drivers License, with access to a personal vehicle and a Criminal Record Check, are mandatory,
- A Food Safe Certificate or ability to obtain (employer-sponsored),
- Familiarity with seasonal availability and traditional harvesting practices is preferred,
- 1-2 years of experience with cooking in a professional setting,
- Physically fit, able to stand for long periods of time, and lift up to 50lbs, and
- Willingness to travel for up to five days at a time.
