Looking for a Temporary, Fixed term contract Aboriginal Early Childhood Educator
$30.00–$30.08 an hour
We are seeking a compassionate and responsible Early Childhood Educator to provide culturally appropriate activities, nurturing care, and curriculum while supporting our children.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate activities around curriculum development and modification to meet the needs of the students and to improve instructional effectiveness.
- Create a safe, stimulating, and supportive classroom environment.
- Observe, assess, and document student’s development and progress.
- Adapt activities to meet the diverse needs and abilities of Student’s.
- Foster positive relationships with student’s, families, and colleagues.
- Support student’s social and emotional development using positive guidance strategies.
- Maintain and post a daily schedule showing the instructional program in class for the day.
- Responsible for supervision of all students and as assigned by the Head Start Manager.
- Ensure health, safety, and cleanliness standards are met at all times.
- Submit bi-weekly reports to the Head Start Manager for the monthly newsletter.
- Demonstrate leadership skills, work ethic and maintain confidentiality.
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Head Start Manager.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of child development from infancy through early childhood,
- Knowledge of age-appropriate curriculum, play-based learning, and early literacy and numeracy concepts,
- Familiarity with positive behavior guidance and classroom management strategies,
- Basic knowledge of family engagement and communication,
- Ability to plan and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate activities,
- Classroom organization and time-management skills,
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team,
- Record-keeping and documentation skills,
- Ability to create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment,
- Ability to follow policies, procedures, and requirements,
- Physical ability to engage in classroom activities, including standing, bending, and lifting children, when necessary.
Experience, Education and Requirements
- Completion of Early Childhood Education Certification and a License to practice in B.C.
- Two to three years’ experience and/or training in an early childhood classroom setting.
- Additional professional experience in early childhood education, early learning, and early literacy.
- Experience with the delivery of the Aboriginal Head Start Program (preferred).
- Clear a vulnerable sector and criminal record check,
- Valid First Aid Level 1 Training and Certification,
- Valid Food Safe Training and Certification,
- Valid BC Driver's License of Class 5 or higher,
- Knowledge of n?e?képmx culture, tradition, and Coldwater community is an asset.
